Out today with Mohith Munuswamy of Iowa. Sax Zim Bog Highlights:
- Great Gray Owl 1.9 miles east of CR 7 on CR 232 (Nichols Lake Rd) * This was my first bird I saw for 2009. - Northern Hawk Owl Intersection of CR 28 (Sax Rd) and CR 7 - Black-backed Woodpecker (female) North end of the bog habitat on McDavitt Rd. (east side). There are two main foot paths going into the most active area for both Am. Three-toed Woodpeckers & Black-backed Woodpeckers. Look for these foot paths on the east side of McDavitt Rd. Also on the southern end of McDavitt Rd the logging is going to resume as the loggers worked on the road into the bog. This area was logged last year and the logging is way into McDavitt Rd on the east side only. - Boreal Chickadee (1) & Gray Jay (2) continues to visit the Admiral Rd feeder. - Northern Shrike, Pine Grosbeaks and Common Redpolls seen at various locations in the bog.
