Perhaps this will help, Roger and all...

I was at Black Dog Lake mid-afternoon,
but missed the
skiers. Interested sighting, Jim.

However, an apparently "healthy" American White Pelican floating on the little
channel leading from the lake to the east outlet attracted my attention. I say
"healthy" because
unlike the pelican we've been seeing, this one had no compunction about
flying away when several folks on the east shore of the channel got too
near. As I crunched through the snow toward the little point to get a snapshot
of it flying
south, I found a pelican carcass on the ground only a few yards away from
where the healthy pelican had been floating on the channel.

Subject: [mnbird] American White Pelican at Blackdog

Hi everyone -

I have to dispute the report of the pelican at Blackdog having
died. I saw it alive and well at around 3:00 pm on New Year's Day. So
unless there are two pelicans or this one is risen from the dead, it
was doing fine when I saw it. There were several other birders
observing it at the same time.
