It was a grand day.
The day hadn't aged much when I took 26 sophomore and junior students
from NRHEG and their biology teacher for a bird walk around St. Olaf Lake
near New Richland. The students were delightful. We saw an amazing number of
birds. The crowd pleaser was a loon.
Later, I took a couple of my grandchildren birding at Flandreau State
Park in New Ulm. They are sharp kids--they take after their Grandma. Spending
time showing loved ones some beautiful birds gave me a permagrin.
I had a pile of work that I should have been doing. I'll pay for playing
hooky later, but I've already been well paid for the time spent with
wonderful young people.
Take a kid birding. Better yet, take a bunch of them birding.
