We had two juvenile Pine Siskins come out of the nest on Wednesday. We had
presumed that the siskins were nesting in a spruce tree not far from the
feeders by their activity. For the past 10 days of so one or two siskins have
been eating at the feeder and then flying into the same spot on the spruce on a
regular pace all day long. We're not sure that both afdults were feeding the
young in the nest

Finally two birds showed up at the feeder that didn't look right and were
following the adult siskins around. The only book I could find a good juvenile
description in is "Finchs and Sparrows, 1993, Clement, Harris and Davis." They
are really quite close to the adults in plumage with the only clear discernable
difference being that the streaking on the chest and stomach is replaced by
brown spotting. Kind of like the spots haven't grown into streaks yet. We
have not noticed any white puffs like downy feathers molting or whatever.
