Saturday, May 23, my wife spotted an "different" bird at our suet feeder just before our dinner guest arrived. It was perched on top of our suet feeder and we both had good looks at it. It appeared to be a Downy Woodpecker, but it was brown where it should have been white. Our initial check of our bird guides did not help. I later found our mystery bird in our "Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America"; it was a Down Woodpecker, Pacific variation. It returned once yesterday morning, but not since then. I have a few photos of fair quality (I was shooting into the sun) that I took yesterday.

Sorry for the late post; I sent my original to the wrong address.
