Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge
Louisville Swamp Unit
Scott County

I led a walk this afternoon at the Louisville Swamp Unit, at the MVNWR. We
observed or heard 38 species of birds and had there not been a steady rain
during the entire walk, I'm sure we could have observed a number of other
species of birds that reside there during the summer season.

Here were a couple of my favorites:

Wild Turkey
Sandhill Crane - Pair observed in marsh along Sand Creek.
Eastern Towhee - nice looks at a male. We were also able to hear a wide
variety of songs, that he was singing.
Lark Sparrow - Observed at three locations along the main trail and also in the
main parking area.
