This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, August 27th, 2009

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was briefly seen on the 24th by Cameron Rutt at 54th
Avenue East and Superior Street in Duluth. The bird flew to the
southwest and has not been relocated. Jan Green saw a female ORCHARD
ORIOLE on the 20th in Duluth Township on the Old North Shore Road (CR
290), about 0.4 mile east of the Homestead Road (CR 42). Peder Svingen
saw an adult light morph PARASITIC JAEGER with a probable subadult bird
at the Park Point Recreation Area on the 24th.

The COMMON NIGHTHAWK migration peaked in Duluth this week with 10,379
counted on the 24th by Cameron Rutt and Josh Bednar at 60th Avenue East
and Superior Street, and 13,154 counted on the 25th by Karl Bardon and
others at Hawk Ridge. The total from the 25th represents the 4th highest
single-day count in the state.

Dee Kuder saw 60 RED-NECKED GREBES on the 22nd on Sand Point Lake in
northern St. Louis County.

Warren Nelson saw nineteen BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES in Aitkin County on the
26th along CR 15 near the town of Aitkin, about 3.5 miles west of
Minnesota Avenue North and 4th Street N.W.
