Hi folks,
I birded the bog this morning with Mike Furtman and we were able to locate
one Northern Hawk Owl on McDavitt (nice spotting, Mike!), but no Great Gray
Owls (GGOWs). A photographer from Maryland we ran into on Admiral Road has
been looking for the McDavitt GGOWs for days with no luck. He had a
different hawk owl from ours this morning, but I didn't get a specific
location.

Blue Spruce feeding station has the usual Black-capped Chickadees,
Red-breasted Nuthatches, Downy & Hairy Woodpeckers, American Goldfinches and
Pine Siskins plus Pine Grosbeaks.
Little Whiteface feeding station has the usual.
Admiral Road feeding station has the usual plus Common Redpolls, Gray Jays,
three Boreal Chickadees, a cooperative female White-winged Crossbill coming
down to the seed, and many flocks of White-winged Crossbills in the area.

Good owling!
Debbie

Subject: [mou-net] RFI - Sax-Zim & Pietz's Great Grays?

I will be traveling to northern Minnesota to visit family this Thursday and
am curious whether Great Gray Owls have been found recently on either
McDavitt Rd. (Sax-Zim bog) or Pietz's Rd (320th & Hwy 18, Aitkin County).
The most recent sigthings I found were for Jan 6th (McDavitt) and Dec 29th
(Pietz's).  I'm hoping to make time to stop by one or both of these spots on
the way north and any recent info (positive or negative) would be much
appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
