I birded Renville County Sunday, March 28. The extreme NE corner of the county
had two flooded fields with 200 and 130 Tundra Swans plus assorted ducks.
There were very few geese and the only species I found all day were Canada
Geese. Preston Lake in the same part of the county is opening up and has
attracted quite a few Bald Eagles, Ring-billed and Herring Gulls for the dead
fish feast.

Flooding by the Minnesota River attracted a good variety of ducks.

Bird Island Sewage Lagoons were empty, but the habitat is good for shorebirds,
with one pond drawn down.

Highlights of the day:
Northern Shrike near Boon Lake Slough WMA
200+ Lapland Longspurs in a field just west of Cty. 1 on 780th Av.
2 Osprey
