Bob Janssen and I had good results during our three day shorebird workshop
based here in Milbank SD. 19 species of shorebird were found. Almost all of the
folks attending got very good long looks at most of the species. It was great
for an intense study of shorebirds. (We had 19 species and 19 people attending
- nice symmetry to that.)

GOLDEN PLOVER
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER
KILLDEER
AMERICAN AVOCET
GREATER YELLOWLEGS
LESSER YELLOWLEGS
SOLITARY SANDPIPER
SPOTTED SANDPIPER
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER
LEAST SANDPIPER
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER
PECTORAL SANDPIPER
UPLAND SANDPIPER
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
STILT SANDPIPER

WILSON'S PHALAROPE

One of the best locations in western MN was Cory Lake located 7 miles south of
Madison MN. Over the last week numbers have fluctuated from many hundreds to
over 2000 shorebirds at that location. I would expect that to continue for at
least a week or more depending on rainfall. Another very good location is on
Co. Rd. 7 (a mile southwest of Rosen MN). It is possible to get VERY close
looks at this location. The vegetation is growing quickly so as time passes it
may be a challenge to see the birds. Note: The fellow (Joe Spors) who owns the
slough lives on the southwest side of it and has always been very gracious on
giving permission to wander around on his land.
