Dave's solution works well.  Instead of X, I use the number 1.  Then, at the
bottom of the column I insert the formula =sum(F1:F600)  to cover the length
of the column.

I once used a bird listing program.  It lasted about two days before it
crashed and I lost all my data.  Excel files are much better.
