On Jan. 1, 2011, 17 intrepid and hardy souls birded the Black Dog power plant causeway hoping for wonderous sightings to start off the new year. We did manage 7 duck species including all 3 mergansers, but alas "wonderous" sightings were a bit thin. Gull numbers were reduced (~150) and, as has been the pattern for this season, they were reluctant to land. In fact, we left before they landed due to low light, dinner obligations, and frozen toes. Most of us were content just to be out and a few wanted their money back. :-]
