We are beginning to line up MOU field trips for 2011.
I hope to have 12-18 trips this year - many different leaders - plan on
leading four myself.
Here are the four I will be leading (much more information will be
forthcoming):
* Sherburne Wildlife Refuge, Saturday, May 14th, 7:15 AM. Meet at Mahnomen
Trail parking lot, just a few miles west of 169, south of Princeton. We
will cover various areas in the refuge, looking for migrating warblers
(believe we've topped 20 species on at least three occasions during this
trip) and local nesting specialties (such as Lark Sparrow). We generally
top 100 species, one year broke 120. Optional afternoon outing as well.
Trip is limited to 25 participants, first come, first serve.
* Aitkin County, Saturday, June 11th, 7:15 AM. Meet at the Rice Lake Refuge
parking lot south of McGregor on 65. This trip will emphasize nesting
passerines (with strong emphasis on warblers), as well as boreal species
like Boreal Chickadee, Gray Jay and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Trip is
limited to 25 participants.
* Mille Lacs County, Saturday August 27th, 7:15 AM. Meet at the Kathio
State Park parking lot (just off 169), sticker required. We will be
attempting to catch the beginnings of fall migration while catching
lingering nesters. Trip is limited to 25 participants.
* Loons, Loons and More Loons, Saturday, October 15th, 7:30 AM. Meet at the
Dairy Queen parking lot outside of Onamia (along 169), carpool from there.
We will cover the west (and perhaps north this year) side of Mille Lacs
Lake, looking for Common, Red-throated and Pacific Loons, as well as other
interesting birds migrating through. Trip is limited to 25 participants.
Registration opens today, simply drop me an email with your name, phone
number and email address.
As other leaders plan trips and contact me, will email and advise everyone.
Hope to have trips this year in the Cities, Duluth/North Shore, western and
southern MN.
Thanks!
