I spent sometime at Canal Park in Duluth, MN this afternoon from 1-2:30pm.
Highlights:
* 175 Gulls total gulls counted.
* 3rd cycle Iceland Gull ( posted pics on recently seen on MOU web page
)
* Thayer's Gull: 1=2nd cycle, 1=3rd cycle, 1 adult* Also the hybrid
gull we
call "herman" which is a Thayer's Gull X Iceland Gull was at Canal Park as
always! It will be fun to see what his/her plumage will look like this March /
April. I first detected this gull back in November at Wisconsin Point and
since
then Peder and I and other birders have noted how much the mantle and other
parts are slowly changing. The gull is in 2nd cycle plumage and will be in
transition between 2nd and 3rd cycle molts in Marh/April. I hope the gull
stays
around till May but that might be asking to much. Herman has been such a joy to
have around this winter.
Also a few months ago on Face Book I created a group called Sax-Zim Bog and so
far we have 107 members from all over the United States. Many photographers who
visit the bog are sharing their photos here and also sharing bird sightings.
If
you would like to be part of the group and have a Face Book account please send
me your face book info and I'll add you to my friend list and then add you to
the group.
