The University of MN Duluth has developed a product that should be
released sometime that uses DMSO to transfers capsicum to plants that
IMO would be better than anything homemade or commercial. I have used
Liquid Fence and it seems to work but has a foul odor.

This has to ferment and it will smell like rotten eggs when you pour it

the sprayer, so don't spill it, but it does work.
My husband likes the hand sprayer, he doesn't have to fill it like you
would
a spray bottle. We usually put it on trees and plants during the summer months,
but like you said, the deer are hungry so my husband sprays it on during the
winter also, we have done this the last two winters.
