Hi, we have had the same problem with the deer. We have a recipe that I mix up
for Deer and Rabbits and it REALLY works, and is very inexpensive.
Here is the recipe:
DEER AND RABBIT REPELLENT
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 tsp. Dish soap
1 TBLS. cooking oil
Mix in blender. Pour in Gallon jug (milk jug is good). Fill remainder
of jug with water and shake good. Let set about a day. Pour into hand sprayer
or
spray bottle.
DO NOT REFRIGERATE
This has to ferment and it will smell like rotten eggs when you pour it
into
the sprayer, so don't spill it, but it does work.
My husband likes the hand sprayer, he doesn't have to fill it like you
would
a spray bottle. We usually put it on trees and plants during the summer months,
but like you said, the deer are hungry so my husband sprays it on during the
winter also, we have done this the last two winters.

Subject: [mnbird] DEER PROBLEMS, ROLLINGSTONE, MN, WINONA CO.
I live in Rollingstone, Winona Co., in the southeast corner of MN.
The snowfall around here has evidently made it difficult for the deer to find
food.
Deer have come into town to my backyard and have practically stripped the
branches bare from a young cedar tree I had planted. They have repeatedly
taken
food from my bird feeders.
Last night was the clincher. Get out the bows and arrows! I'm fighting mad.
The deer once again attacked my bird feeders and have destroyed the second
finch
feeder I've put out this winter (the sock type).
Guess I'll need to stop feeding the birds but it breaks my heart to look out
the
window to see the finches, juncos, and sometimes pine siskins sitting on the
post looking at the house as if to say, "Aren't your going to feed me?"
Sad and mad in Rollingstone.
