Pelican numbers have really been increasing, today there were 30 to 40 in
several areas on the west (smaller) lake. There have been a lot of wood
ducks on both lakes and the usual numbers of great blue herons, egrets, and
cormorants. There don't seem to be as many mallards as other years and the
broods are pretty small. Lots of Canada geese but smaller broods there,
too. Today there were at least 30 very active Cedar Waxwings along both
sides of the road between the lakes plus about 5 yellow warblers and a
family of warbling vireos. Caught a brief glimpse at what appeared to be a
red-eyed vireo.
