We will be in the area of Walker around Leech Lake in northern Cass County this weekend and was wondering if anybody knows any particularly good birding spots in the area. I am also wondering if there are specifically any possible good spots for seeing shorebirds in the area. I'm not really sure if there is good shorebird habitat in the area, but if anybody knows of any nearby that would be awesome.
Also, a secondary topic for discussion that I noticed somebody ask about earlier is whether there are any good shorebird locations in Hennepin county. I am wondering the same thing about good shorebird locations, except extended to the whole metro area. I know there are some good areas in southern Dakota County and western Carver County, but are there other good locations within the metro area that people know about? In the past during drier years I know Purgatory Creek wetlands in Eden Prairie has been a good source for seeing shorebirds, but not so much when we get lots of rain.
