Spent some time driving around/getting to know Minneapolis area lakes this
morning/early afternoon. Visited Lakes Calhoun and Harriet, lots of ducks
and very few gulls (nothing other than species previously reported today).
Last stops were at both ends of Black Dog Road. Several hundred ducks on
the Eagan/Silver Bells Road side, mostly Common Mergansers, and not much
else, besides a few American Tree Sparrows. The other side of Black Dog
(exit off of 35W), our last stop, had a small but diverse gathering of
gulls at the spillway/parking lot on the MN River. Several dozen Herring
Gulls, a handful of Ring-billed Gulls, at least two Thayer's Gulls (one
very cooperative, picture perfect adult) and one juvenile Glaucous Gull,
slightly darker and smaller than the "average" Glaucous Gull. Gulls were
viewed at this location from around 1230-115.
