Too bad about the bluetail. However, I would rather hear about the demise of
the bluetail than the demise of a shrike-- the San Clemente subspecies of
Loggerhead Shrike is endangered, the bluetail is not. At least the bluetail
was well documented by photos!

I just learned today(Sunday 12-11-11) that the Red Flanked Bluetail first
seen on San Clemente Island was killed and eaten by a Loggerhead Shrike over
the weekend. Sorry to
bear bad news for any birdchatters who were hoping to make a future trip to
see this bird.
