I thought it might be of note to post a sighting of a Belted Kingfisher flying
over a frozen and (for now) snow-covered pond near my home in southwest
Bloomington. Its distinctive rattling call was unmistakeable. I don't recall
whether or not kingfishers are known to over-winter during more mild winters
in the greater Twin Cities. Is there documentation of this occurring with any
regularity? Happy holidays birders!
