I recently received word that a Lazuli Bunting I found near Detroit Lakes (in the Spring) was rejected. My son and I checked and rechecked this bird and we had everything but a picture. I was convinced it was authentic and when I first got the news I was a bit miffed. Then I looked at why it was rejected. I did not have enough experience with the bird (only saw 1 female before and a few glimpses out West) and I did not eliminate the possibility of it being a hybrid. Immediately, I began researching this possibility and saw images of hybrids that were very close to a pure breed. All said and done it caused me to learn more about the bird and I will carry my camera whenever I go birding. If the bird was hybrid or not doesn't matter. It was there, I saw it, and records are records. Besides even Janssen has been rejected in the past.
To make this a legit post. 4 species of owls saw recently in Morrison County. Great Horned, Barred, Log eared, Snowy. Someone was interested in Red Headed Woodpeckers (forgot name). 5 are in an area of South West Morrison County and if you need the info contact me. ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
