In addition to sightings already reported recently on mou-net,
following is information on a few of the birds seen on Jan 14-15 by
the Minn Birding Weekends group in St Louis & Lake Co's which may be
helpful to visiting birders:
Barrow's Goldeneye - the male seen on the Duluth CBC was relocated on
L Superior at 23rd Ave East on Jan 14; others saw it here Jan 13, and
it was also found on the lake farther NE out from the Glensheen
Mansion area.
Peregrine Falcon - one perched on the General Mills grain elevator in
Duluth on Jan 14 at the same location and around the same time a
Gyrfalcon was reported the same day; as birders try to relocate and
confirm the ID of this possible Gyr, it helps to be aware that 1-2
Peregrines have been in this area since December.
Snowy Owl - an adult female found at dawn on Jan 14 perched on
rooftops along the W side of Garfield Ave in Duluth, about half way
between the Goodwill store and the Railroad Ave intersection.
N Hawk Owl - still present along Hwy 61 in Lake Co on Jan 14
immediately NE of the Gooseberry River bridge; this individual had
mostly been seen on previous days ~1 NE of here along Hwy 61.
Am Three-toed Woodpecker - a male found by Erik Bruhnke and Chris West
near Isabella in Lake Co on Jan 7 was relocated today: from Isabella,
go E off Hwy 1 on Forest Rd 172 for 0.7 mi, turn left on Sawbill
Landing Rd and go N 0.6 mi, and look/listen here on the E side of the
road.
Hoary Redpoll - a male still present Jan 14 in the Sax-Zim Bog at the
feeders on Blue Spruce Rd, 1 mi N of CR 133; another male seen today
at Pat Thomas's feeders at 6219 E Superior St.
