October 26, 2012 Minnesota River Valley Audubon ChapterMcLeod County Birding DayField Trip Report Our group enjoyed a cool but, birdy day in McLeod county today. We began the day at Bernice Hall's home, with great looks at the Summer Tanager that is visiting her feeding station. Also there were Lincoln's and White-throated Sparrows, Purple Finches and a large flock of Pine Siskin's. Our next destination was Silver Lake. In route, we found a very large flock of Blackbirds. That included, 100s of Brewer's Blackbirds and a few Rusty Blackbirds. At Silver Lake we found a nice mix of waterfowl. Back in Hutchinson, at Sportsman's park. We observed a single Ross's Goose, Snow Geese and lots of Cackling Geese. West of Hutchinson, across from the DNR Offices. We found some Killdeer, a Least Sandpiper and several Pectoral Sandpipers, in addition to some Bonaparte's and Franklin's Gulls. On some of our last stops of the day, we found 1/2 a dozen Eurasian Collared-Dove's in Stewart, 20 American Pipit's on the South shore of Lake Addie and several 1000 Canada Geese, just West of Glencoe.
