Butch Ukura, Mike Lentz and I birded around Aitkin County today. A few of the findings have already been posted but I will give a full list. There is a SNOWY OWL along highway 169, 3 & 7/10ths miles north of Aitkin. We found two GREAT GRAY OWLS along Aitkin County Road 18. The first was at about 3 & 1/2 miles east of highway 169 and the second owl was two telephone poles to the east of Pietz's Road. We had a NORTHERN GOSHAWK on Pietz's Road about 1/2 mile north of C.R.18. Also seen: 2 SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, 1 RUFFED GROUSE, 2 GRAY JAYS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 1 BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, 300+ SNOW BUNTINGS, COMMON REDPOLLS, PINE GROSBEAKS, 1 WILD TURKEY on Pietz's Road, a BALD EAGLE AND a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD which is wintering at my feeders.
