Out today (Sunday) with Steve and John from Florida....
1 Boreal Owl in Two Harbors at 123 3rd Ave (found by Jim Lind). In Lilac bush in front yard of gray house. 3 Great Gray Owls: Scenic 61 & Lakewood Rd, near Amish Furniture store on Superior St. (9000 block E), and at the Dirt Factory along Martin Rd. about a half mile west of Jean Duluth Rd (along snowmobile trail north of Martin) 1 Saw-whet Owl at Matthew Moses house between Cloquet and Duluth in Solway Twp. (2 Hoary Redpolls in his yard too) 2 Snowy Owls in Superior, WI near Murphy Oil Refinery (could not locate either the Middle School or Bong Airport birds) 2 N Hawk Owls in Sax-Zim Bog: one was 1.5 mi N of Sax Rd. along CR7 (E. side) Thanks Pedar!, and the now semi-regular bird along Stone Lk Rd where the logging road heads to the N. (as usual, this bird was right along the road on the power pole but later flew off far to the south. Bohemian Waxwing flocks at several locations...None sitting. Lakeside near Glenwood & 45th Ave. E., Scenic 61 and Penmaralter Campground, Jean Duluth near Paine Farm. Townsend's Solitaire at 4724 Oakley St in Lakeside....Not in front yard crabapple but in tall aspen in backyard. Gorgeous day to boot!
