Hello:

Been a busy last four days of guiding people from all over and many of the owls
we saw have already been reported on this listserv.  Anyway in Lake County
along Lake County Road 2 about .3 miles north of the Sand River pull off we
spotted 10 Spruce Grouse and I was able to photograph several male Spruce
Grouse on the road.  Its just remarkable how close you can walk up to these
beautiful birds and photograph them as they grit along the road. We arrived at
this location around 7:30am which is a good time to be there because there is
virtually no traffic on Lake County Rd 2 at this time of the morning.  We then
saw a male Spruce Grouse on Hwy. 1 between mile post 303-302 which is east of
the intersection of Lake CR 2 and Highway 1.

I got a report that the resident who lives in the homestead just south of the
intersection of Sax Road (CR 28) and Stickney Road was acting out of control on
Saturday.  The man was actually blocking any cars that attempted to turn south
on the Stickney Road off the Sax Road.  A woman who was visiting Sax-Zim Bog
with her young children were confronted by this man and were scared to the
point where the kids were crying and the woman was terrified by this man's
behavior.  As you know I chatted with the man last Sunday and he totally and
firmly believes that he owns half of the Stickney Rd from the Sax Road all the
way to the end of his property.  So he feels he was just protecting his
property from anyone who wanted to drive on the Stickney Road last Saturday.
The county sheriff made another visit with the man as the person who shared
this report with me saw the sheriff car in the man's driveway.

My advice to anyone who visits the bog is that when you are done birding the
McDavitt Road or the Admiral Road is to drive east on the Sax Road to county
road 7 and then drive south on CR 7 to Arkola Road and then west on Arkola Rd
to Owl Avenue.  Since many birders thought it was quicker to just drive down
the Stickney Rd to the Arkola Rd which is correct but this detour will keep you
away from driving by this guy's house.  Just some simple advice to keep you
safe.

Good birding!
