Hello fellow birders,

I just returned from an escape south to a birding festival in Galveston, TX.
Warblers were still early in the game, but did get good looks at prothonotary,
Kentucky, Tennessee, and black and white warblers. Also had a lovely trip to a
state park with a gentleman who photographed a double toothed kite in Texas
that was accepted; he wasn't aware of what it was at first. Great story and
what a thrill to find a new bird in the US.

WCCO did an interesting question and answer tonight on how birds handle the
cold weather who are migrating, essentially pointing out not to worry, they
can handle it, they'll find food and get by for the time being and then move
on. It got me to thinking about the warblers as they begin to arrive here. Next
week allegedly will be warmer perhaps pushing 60. Perhaps as they arrive
later into early and mid-May, they won't really notice. As a newer birder, just
curious in years past if a cooler April had any effect on timing. As a
photographer, my hopes are this will be the best in years for photographing
them, as there will be fewer leaves fully out by early May.

Here's hoping for a good spring,
Fr. Paul
