Two additional snowy owls were found in eastern Kandiyohi county on Jan 5th.,
though neither bird was relocated on the 6th. One bird was found by Roger
Schroeder, who was serendipitously passing through, 1 mile west of Atwater on
hwy 12. The bird flew up to, then landed on, one of the smaller buildings of
the Bushmills Ethanol Plant.
Second bird, found by Craig Radel (actually owl searching) was several miles NE
of New London near the intersection of 240th ave. and 115th st NE.
This second location does not look like typical snowy habitat, but the bird was
seen flying towards active turkey barns, so perhaps turkey noise or carion were
attractants.

Caution to anyone traveling to or through Kandiyohi county and surrounding
locals. This past Thursday night we received freezing rain and it has not
sublimed yet....1/8 inch of glare ice covers most paved secondary roads.
Travel is slow and conditions treacherous with little improvement expected
until Thursday.
