Over the last few years, have read with interest posts from those doing Green
Big Years, and those who heavily emphasize their local patches.

Hit me this morning that due to a variety of circumstances, the great majority
of my 2013 birding had been within 30 miles of home.

So I reviewed my 2013 list a few moments ago, and was shocked to discover that
253 of my year birds occurred within 30 miles.

The "cheater", of course, in this was that I've birded from two home bases,
central MN 1/1 to 5/19, northeast Kansas 5/20 to 12/31.

Nevertheless, such causes one to think. And contemplate one's approach.
