A big overdue thank-you goes out to many of you who were birding in Sax-Zim
Bog this past Saturday. Other keen eyes than our own, spotted both the
Great-Gray Owl and the Snowy Owl we got to enjoy. We had super close-up
looks at the Great Gray due to Mike Hendrickson's generosity with his scope.
Most of all, we were spared from having to call AAA when I turned a corner
too sharply and got one side of the car stuck in a ditch; several of you,
including Erik Bruhnke and Frank Nicoletti (I think) came to the rescue
with muscle-power, so we lost little birding time. That enabled us to
return to the Admiral Road Feeders later and see the two Boreal Chickadees.
Thanks, too, to those who are working on/for the Friends of the Bog Welcome
Center. The volunteer who was staffing it was most gracious, sharing his
wife's homemade cookies. We also owe a debt of gratitude to all the
residents maintaining feeders well ahead of the Festival, and putting up
with our traffic and gawking. Thank you, all for sharing the birds!
