There was no sign of the American Bittern seen yesterday at Crosby Park in
St. Paul. A Waterthrush sang briefly from woods behind the flooded area
across the paved path at the east end of the main lake. It was not seen,
and the song was so truncated that I wasn't certain which waterthrush it
was. Baltimore Orioles' songs, however, were easy to identify, as was the
House Wren's.
There were great numbers of White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows,
along with the Song Sparrows and a Tree Sparrow. Also present were Palm,
Black and White, and Yellow Warbler, with many Yellow-rumps and
Ruby-crowned Kinglets. In addition, other birders mentioned seeing
Nashville, Common Yellowthroat, and Orange-crowned Warblers.
Finally, at home some Chimney 'Swifts were vocalizing as they flew above
the backyard. Now it truly feels like spring.
