Today wandering The Nature Conservancy's Schaefer Prairie in McLeod Cty. (southeast of Brownton) I heard a Least Bittern sounding off frequently around 11 a.m. (somewhere in the largest marsh in the east-central part of the prairie), along with a Sora, a Willow Flycatcher (1st heard and then seen), Marsh Wrens, Bobolinks, Clay-colored Sparrows, and all the other typical marsh-prairie birds, along with a deserted pheasant ground-nest (with broken eggs), several species of dragonflies, and many early summer blooming pink, violet, yellow, and white wild prairie flowers.
