Birding Friends, Keep in mind we must also educate our decision makers. I heard someone say, "so what if some birds get killed, I have too many geese in my yard anyway." We are using the same words, but not talking the same language. Birders understand we are talking primarily about neotropical birds. Non birders think of pigeons, English sparrows, crows and Canada geese. Use examples like: orioles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, wood thrush, scarlet tanager, indigo bunting, assorted warblers, hummingbirds...things they may have some familiarity with or can look up. Large numbers of the birds being references are either declining or seriously declining.
When I was chair of the MOU Conservation Committee, the most common question I heard began with these 3 words, "why doesn't someone...".
