I agree ... we need to keep at this while it is a hot and timely issue. Jim Williams posted some great people to call and let them know our opinions. Here they are again:

Here is someone else to contact regrading Viking's stadium glass. Maybe this should be your first call. Lester Bagley is vice-president of public affairs and stadium development for the football team.

There is an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the City Council voted to have bird safe glass installed http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/269559301.html . However, it is non-binding apparently as the City only has two seats on the stadium council (5 total). At least it is on the radar...with a little more push from birders and others, hopefully this issue can get resolved in the birds' favor.

Subject: [mou-net] Another thought on stadium debate

Birding Friends,
Keep in mind we must also educate our decision makers. I heard someone say, "so what if some birds get killed, I have too many geese in my yard anyway." We are using the same words, but not talking the same language. Birders understand we are talking primarily about neotropical birds. Non birders think of pigeons, English sparrows, crows and Canada geese. Use examples like: orioles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, wood thrush, scarlet tanager, indigo bunting, assorted warblers, hummingbirds...things they may have some familiarity with or can look up. Large numbers of the birds being references are either declining or seriously declining.

When I was chair of the MOU Conservation Committee, the most common question I heard began with these 3 words, "why doesn't someone...". Here is your chance; stand up and be heard, counted, if you disagree with the stadium design. I will now remove myself from the proverbial soapbox.
