On Sunday I did some birding in Yellow Medicine County with Garrett Wee and in Kandiyohi County with Steve Gardner.
Yellow Medicine County: We birded Miller-Richter WMA and found several hundred shorebirds--many were peeps, Yellowleg sp., and Pectorals. There were about 15 Long-billed Dowitchers, several Dunlin, and a few Wilson's Phalaropes. Later we birded the Spellman Lake area, specifically Miedd Lake. In addition to the previously posted Ibises, the lake was loaded with shorebirds. We didn't have time to sort through them, however. This eBird list has the exact location of the Ibises pinned: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S23198793 Kandiyohi County: The Lake Lillian sewage ponds had few birds but great diversity (18 sp). Shorebirds: Wilson's Phalaropes (4) Spotted Sandpiper (2) Pectoral Sandpiper (2) Lesser Yellowlegs (2) Solitary Sandpiper (nearby on Lake Lillian) Full list - http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S23197385 Steve and I spent several hours birding Sibley State Park in the evening. Birds of note: Field Sparrow (1) Harris's Sparrow (2) White-throated Sparrow (50) - low ball estimate Palm Warbler (4) Yellow-rumped Warbler (10) Northern Waterthrush (1) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (3) Full list - http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S23214656 Good birding, Josh Wallestad ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
