The US House passed a bill this week that includes a provision that would
prevent the Dept of Justice from enforcing the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
(1918).  If the Senate approves the bill, and the President signs it,
federal protection for about 1000 bird species would be removed.   (This
info is from an e-msg from ABC. National Audubon Socy has a similar notice
on their website.)  As we have seen recently, "omnibus" bills can include
text that is bad for conservation and they might pass into law due to that
language or to other unrelated content that wins votes.
