Milt Blomberg (who I have a friendly competition with) had a Western Tanager
come into his
feeder earlier in the year. Needless to say, I was a little jealous. Today, I
was in my yard and
looked toward my neighbor's feeder a low and behold, a beautiful male Western
Tanager. It
flew out of her yard and past mine towards Pine Grove Park (which I live next
to ) in Little
Falls. I went to speak to her and she knew the bird had been coming to her
feeder for almost a
month. Shows me I should be taking to my neighbors more and be involved in
their lives.
After speaking to her I realized she is a very knowledgable birder and has a
better feeder
system than I do. I also feel humiliated because I have been hearing an odd
call in the
neighborhood but I passed it off as a weird sounding robin. She said it comes
in at odd times
and couldn't tell me if there is a pattern. She is open to birders if you are
interested. My
address is 307 8th Street N.W. Little Falls and she lives across the road to
the east of me.
