I will be leading a MRVAC field trip this Sunday (8/18) at Miesville Ravine
County Park in the Southeast corner of Dakota County. This rarely visited
gem includes an excellent remnant of the Big Woods forests that were cut
down when the farmers settled the area. Recent reports include Wood
Thrush, Common Raven, Whip-poor-will, Ovenbird, Scarlet Tanager, and
Yellow-billed Cuckoo. This has been an especially reliable location for the
Wood Thrush and Yellow-billed Cuckoo. We hope to see some early warbler
migrants, flycatchers, and hummingbirds. The trails are easy hiking. Bring
a lunch and if the weather is favorable we may hit some of the newer meadow
areas in the afternoon. Address is 27970 Orlando Trail, Cannon Falls.
Google maps will bring you to the south parking lot, but we will meet at 8
am at the north parking lot across the street. The bird hike is free and
open to all. No reservations needed. Just show up.
