Anyone ever seen a list of which applications (outside of the Mozilla Foundation software) rely upon NSS? I've seen references to Open Office, Sun One portal, Netscape/AOL/RedHat Directory Services and Certificate Mgt Services. Any others?

We don't have a one true list of NSS customers. I did find four documents in our web site that mentions some of our customers: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/#projects http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/overview.html http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/build_system.html#background http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/release_notes_32.html#Introduction

Some of the above information is already out-of-date.

Here are the NSS customers I know of.

1. Mozilla clients, including the Mozilla
Application Suite, Firefox, Thunderbird, and
Netscape browsers.

2. Most Netscape servers. (The exceptions
were mostly acquired products.)

3. Sun servers that are derived from Netscape
servers (via the iPlanet Sun/Netscape Alliance).
The brand names include iPlanet, Sun ONE, and
Sun Java Enterprise System.

4. Red Hat servers that are derived from Netscape
servers (via Red Hat's recent acquisition of
Netscape servers).

5. Some Sun servers that were not related to
iPlanet. (Most of these use JSS, by the way.)

6. AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). For encrypted
and signed instant messaging.

7. AOL Communicator. Note: this product has
been discontinued.

8. Some AOL internal server products. (Most of
them were developed by former Netscape server
engineers.)

9. Novell (formerly Ximian) Evolution. Note: I
don't know what they use NSS for. Probably for
S/MIME and SSL.

10. Gaim. Note: I don't know what they use NSS
for.

11. OpenOffice.org(?). Not confirmed, but there
is evidence in our bug database that they use NSS.
I don't know what they use NSS for.
