I'm seeing some pretty inconsistent behavior with iplanet dir server 5.0 in terms of reliable search results. I can submit the exact same search filter twice (objectclass=*) with scope =1 and get N results the first time and then N-1 the second time. I have an isolated system so there are no other connections. I'm also using sun's JNDI SPI for LDAP 3.0. I've traced this back to the server inspecting the access logs. They indeed show the two searches with identical filters, yet different # of items found. Oddly, this behavior seems to be tied to the acis I'm using. They're not complicated either.
