I am trying to retrieve email addresses and certificates via LDAP (OpenLDAP 2.2.5) using Mozilla 1.6. The email address part works fine, but it seems that the directory is never asked for the certificate.
I have found the "solution", hopefully this will help someone else as well.
It seems that if the "Default encryption setting when sending messages" is not set to "required", messenger will not check for a certificate, and will report "Not Found". This seems like a bug to me?
Another problem I had was that the "Certificate Key Usage" field in the certificate did not contain "data encipherment". This caused messenger to report the certificate as valid, but when trying to send an encrypted email, it would report that the certificate was not found or not trusted.
