Compser is said to be an HTML editor not an XML editor.
That said, and doing a little looking around, it appears there is not going to be an HTML 5 or greater. So Composer is dead-ending it self not supporting xhtml schemsa (dtds).
Not HTML ist the dead end but XHTML 1.x is, because XHTML 1.x does not give use any added value but incompatibility. XHTML becomes interesting which XHTML 2.0, which is not yet ready specified. If you are satisfied by XHTML 1.x then use HTML 4.01 avoiding all that useless trouble with incompatibilities.
If this does not satisfy you, wait for XHTML 2.0 or higher. Until XHTML 2.0 isn't specified completely und does not give use real added values there is no need to replace the HTML composer by a XHTML composer. A XML composer is useless because XML is no language but a standardized notation for private languages, that no one understands, but general converters can deal with without knowing anything about it's meaning. Composer is just the miniature WORD built into the Mozilla Office suite used to create stand alone pages and emails.
