Actually the person that told you that is probably telling the truth. You 
might be able to find some tutorial on very basic text editing, but most 
people who have the time and ability to develop a robust Flash anything is 
going to develop it as a Macromedia Extension and sell it. I can say that if 
you are comfortable with OOP in ActionScript and comfortable with 
components, start in MX2004 Pro you should be able to get one together.
