There is a tool in the Mozilla source code under mozilla/embedding/browser/activex/tests/ called IE patcher which searches through .exe and .dll files replacing instances of the IE control CLSID with the Mozilla control CLSID. Results are variable, since factors such as what interfaces and methods are called, threading models and even what content it is being displayed may mean it doesn't work properly. Obviously, patching is done at your own risk, however the IE patcher should preserve the original file and create a patched version with moz_ prepended, e.g. patching foo.exe creates a new moz_foo.exe.

I've been looking over the Mozilla ActiveX control and the thought of
totally replacing IE in EVERY program in windows (even windows itself)
with Mozilla came to me. Is this possible? i.e. if I were to run the
patch tool on windows itself would this take care of it? Any thoughts?
