Hi, we have a problem, when downloading binary files (e.g. *.xls - Excel - worksheet) from our Webserver, being an - Apache on RedHat-Linux, /etc/mime.types - entry is: application/vnd.ms-excel xls with - Netscape Navigator 4.6 / 4.7, the Explorer-Filetype entry has the same (mime - file extension) pair. When activating a link (left mouse button, shift + left mouse button, right mouse button) on such a file an excel-file we find different behaviour on different PCs. 1st case: all is ok. You can decide as known: opening with excel, saving on disk. 2nd case: left mouse button displays parts of the file content in the browser window, as it is done for plain text files. Saving the file increases the file size (as with unix to dos line end expansion for text files). The 2nd case was the behaviour for all clients, BEFORE I added the mime-entry to the server, but what could be the reason for the differences now? Thanks in advance Matthias Krause
