I'm having trouble with trying to hide or obscure layers (divs) which
contain flash animations in mozilla (nightlies, NS6, and M18). Was
wondering if this has already been reported (couldn't find it in
bugzilla but was sure I had seen mention of it before).

Basically have a few layers in the same position, each containing a
flash animation. One layer starts with the visibility set to visible
and the others hidden. The affect desired is that of flipping the
layers.

Setting another layer to visible renders the HTML aspect of the frame
but does not render the flash portion (in NS6). I suspect that the
browser has not given an "expose event" to the plugin. On my
2000/12/17 mozilla trunk build changing the visibility crashes the
browser.

Another technique I tried was using a layer at a higher z-index to
block the underlying layers. This effectively blocked the HTML portion
of the layers but all of the flash animations showed through.

I haven't tested this with other plugins, but I suspect there is a big
hole in the way plugins are treated rendering-wise.

Does someone know more about this?
