Unless someone provides a patch, neatly packaged in an xpi would be best
(Beonex has done this), you can't easily add bits and pieces to an
installed application. For one thing the inter-dependances can run deep
and into surprising areas. The only way to do what you need is to build it
yourself, which so long as you have the tools for your own platform isn't
that big of a deal providing you follow the recipe exactly.
On the other hand where it is feasible Distributors should provide patch
releases for important updates, so rattle the cage of your chosen
Distributor. I don't think that mozilla.org should provide those releases
however, from my point of view mozilla.org should build reference builds only.
