Your images have not been converted in anyway, they are still regular
JPEG files. What has changed is what program Windows associates with
JPEGs. In this case, when Netscape 6, or Mozilla, was installed it
changed the file association information in Windows.

The solution is simple:
1. Open Netscape 6, on the menu bar click on Edit, then Preferences.
2. In the categories on the left side of the Preferences window, expand
Advanced (either by double click or clicking on the triangle next to it).
3. Go to Windows Integration, or it might be Desktop Integration.
4. Uncheck "JPEG images," and anything else that you don't want
associated with Netscape 6.
5. Click OK at the bottom of the window.

Now I haven't tested this part, but it should work:
1. Find a JPEG file, double click it and a windows should pop up asking
you to select a program to associate the file with. Make sure "Always
open with this program," or something similar, is checked.
