Charlie,
Basically as far as I can tell, you have to go into Prefs->Navigator->Helper
apps and manually set each mime.type and application binding.
Mozilla completely ignores mime.types files under linux. Last I saw this was
"scheduled" for 1.0, but who knows.
IMO, the poor handling of help applications by mozilla is a major impediment.
Whenever I use mozilla for "real work" I am constantly clicking on PDF, PS, EPS,
etc. Until this is fixed, I can't in good conscience recommend mozilla to my
colleagues, although I use it regularly.
Unfortunately the whole topic of helper apps seems to be a bit of a black sheep
within mozilla.org (and/or Netscape).
